125 out of 179 passengers of the flight from Italy turned out to be infected, all were isolated

On Thursday, 125 passengers have been found infected in Air India’s chartered flight YU-661, which arrived from Italy at Amritsar International Airport in Punjab. A total of 179 passengers were on board the flight. All the infected have been quarantined in Amritsar. The explosion of the corona bomb at the airport has created a stir. This is the first time that such a large number of corona infected have been found in a single flight.

VK Seth, director of the Amritsar Airport Authority, said that Italy has been included in the list of at-risk countries by the central government. Due to this, orders were given to test every passenger after the flight from there landed at Amritsar airport at around 11.30 am. There were a total of 179 passengers on the flight. Seth said that out of these, rapid antigen testing of 160 passengers was done, in which 125 passengers have been found positive at present.

19 children and newborns were among the passengers, they were not tested

VK Seth said that out of the total 179 passengers of the flight from Italy, 17 children and 2 newborns are included. At present there is no provision for testing of children. That’s why they were not tested in any way. All the passengers found positive have been handed over to the health department.

All samples will be sent for genome sequencing

The Health Department has sent all the passengers to isolation centers in collaboration with the airport authority. Health department teams have reached the spot and everyone’s swab tests are being taken. These will also be sent for RT-PCR testing as well as genome sequencing testing to find out if any of these new variants are affected by Omicron.

13 infected at the airport found from December 1 to January 5

A total of 13 passengers have been found corona positive at Amritsar’s Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport from 1st December 2021 till Wednesday, 5th January. The airport authority has tied up with Krishna Laboratories, a private lab for testing. Every day around 300 people are tested for rapid antigen at the airport.

Situation worsening in big districts of Punjab

After Patiala, the epidemic is spreading again in 5 big districts of Punjab Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Pathankot and Amritsar. The corona positivity rate has reached 7.95% in the state. Now Omicron has 7 cases. 598 new patients have been found in Patiala. 300 patients have been found in Mohali adjacent to Chandigarh, 203 in Ludhiana, 183 in Jalandhar, 163 in Pathankot and 105 in Amritsar. In Punjab, 4 patients have died due to corona infection. At the same time 69 patients are on life saving support. Of these, 53 are on oxygen, 14 on ICU and 2 on ventilator.
