About a month back, India’s top telecom services companies, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea hiked the tariffs of their prepaid packs by 20-25%, in order to increase their average revenue per user (ARPU) and address the financial stress faced by the telecom industry.
Compared to its competitor telcos, the tariff hike announced by Reliance Jio was the lowest in the sector, with its entry-level plan priced at Rs Rs 91 for 28 days, against Rs 99 provided by Airtel and Vodafone Idea.
Besides, Jio also rolled out its cheapest recharge plan costing Re 1 valid for 30 days on Dec 15, 2021. As a slew of users welcomed the telco’s new plan introduction, the telco revised the plan for a validity of 10 days, the very next day on Dec 16.
On Dec 29, the plan was completely taken off from Jio’s official website as well as the mobile application.
Jio’s Re 1 Recharge Plan
On Dec 15, while everyone was jolted by telcos’ prepaid tariff hikes by 20-25%, Reliance Jio rolled out its cheapest recharge plan, costing Re 1 and valid for 30 days.
The plan included 100MB high-speed 4G data, without the feature of free calling. Customers could also buy multiple Re 1 recharge packs and queue them for automatic activation after the existing pack expires or gets exhausted.
However, on Dec 16, to customers’ distress, the Re 1 pack was revised by the telco, with the high-speed 4G data pack offered for only 10 MB for 30 days compared to initially 100 MB.
Jio’s Re 1 Recharge Plan Discontinued
After revising the plan once, Jio has on Dec 29, discontinued its cheapest prepaid recharge of Re 1.
There are speculations that the telco might be doing some kind of testing with its Re 1 recharge plan or the website/app must be going through some sort of a database update, but these are mere speculations and it is safe to assume that Jio has discontinued what appeared to be a pretty lucrative recharge plan.
The plan was taken off from the official website and Jio’s mobile app.

Reliance Jio has given gifts to its customers. The company has resumed its Rs 499 plan. Jio along with the rest of the companies has also made its prepaid plans even more expensive in December. At the same time, some plans had been discontinued, including a Rs 499 plan.

Under which an additional validity of 29 days is also being provided in the Rs 2,545 plan, after which the plan will work for a total of 365 days.
